Controller and scope of the Cookie Policy
This notice concerns cookies and other tools that store or read information on the device while MegaFile.it is being used.
The Controller is Marco Vinci, operator of MegaFile.it. For requests concerning cookies or data protection, you may write to info@megafile.it.
The Cookie Policy applies to browsing, uploading, link generation, download pages and the other areas of the site that invoke the preference manager.
The description also includes tools other than cookies, such as sessionStorage and IndexedDB, when they perform similar browser storage functions.
What cookies and equivalent tools are
A cookie is a small item of information associated with the browser; different technologies may store data for technical or measurement purposes.
First-party cookies are set by the MegaFile.it domain. Third-party cookies are controlled by external parties whose services may be loaded on the page.
To ensure the operation, security and continuity of the Service, MegaFile may use technical cookies and other local browser storage technologies, such as sessionStorage, localStorage or IndexedDB. These tools are not necessarily cookies in the technical sense, but may be used to temporarily store preferences, operational states, data needed for uploading or downloading and other information essential to providing the functions requested by the user.
Logs recorded by the server are not cookies and do not reside on the user’s device, even when they contain technical identifiers linked to a visit.
Strictly necessary technical cookies
MegaFile uses technical cookies that are essential to ensure security, session continuity and the correct operation of the actions requested by the user.
These tools are not used for marketing, commercial profiling or tracking the user across sites belonging to parties other than MegaFile.it.
Completely disabling cookies through the browser may compromise form security, the retention of preferences or the correct completion of certain operations.
Technical cookies are used exclusively for the time and to the extent necessary to provide the requested functions and protect the Service.
Cookies linked to acceptance of the Terms
When the acceptance flow is used, the site may record the accepted version and the technical date of acceptance.
These cookies are not used for analytics, advertising or profiling. They may be present only when the user completes the relevant flow.
Because they are HttpOnly, they cannot be read by page scripts and are managed by the server.
Analytics identifier
The internal analytics module uses a random identifier to distinguish new and returning visits.
MegaFile may use a random first-party identifier to distinguish, pseudonymously, new visits from returning visits and to produce statistics on the use and performance of the Service.
The identifier does not directly contain a name, email address or other personal details. It may be associated with technical and browsing information, such as the page visited, date and time, type of device, browser, source of the visit, session duration and usage events.
The maximum expected duration is 395 days. The user may prevent subsequent recognition by withdrawing consent or deleting cookies from their browser. Deleting the identifier from the device does not automatically delete technical data already recorded in the Service’s systems, which are retained according to the periods and purposes stated in the Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager
The site is configured to communicate with Google services; their actual activation depends on the components loaded and on the user’s choice.
The mere technical authorisation of Google domains in the Content Security Policy does not demonstrate that a service is actually active and does not independently create cookies.
When Google Analytics or other tags are loaded, they may receive IP addresses, identifiers, browser information, pages visited and events. The names and durations shown in the browser tools at the time of the visit prevail over the indicative examples given in this notice.
Advertising, embedded media and third-party cookies
Some pages may be technically prepared for advertising, videos or external content, but a third-party cookie exists only if the relevant component is actually loaded.
Google advertising components, YouTube or Vimeo videos, maps, widgets and other embedded content may send requests to external domains and, if loaded, apply the policies of the relevant provider.
MegaFile.it cannot directly delete cookies set on third-party domains. To remove them, it may be necessary to use the browser settings or the tools made available by the provider.
The presence and actual duration of third-party cookies may change following provider updates; for this reason, the list must be checked periodically through an actual scan of the site.
Local technical browser storage
MegaFile.it may use local browser storage technologies to ensure continuity of the operations requested by the user.
The Service may use session storage and other local browser storage to temporarily store operational states, technical preferences and information needed to maintain continuity while moving between the different stages of uploading or downloading.
In some circumstances, information relating to selected files may be stored temporarily on the user’s device. Local storage alone does not cause the files to be sent to MegaFile.it systems: transmission takes place only when the user voluntarily starts the upload.
These data are normally removed when the relevant flow is completed or during the cleanup procedures provided by the Service. In the event of abnormal interruptions of the browser or device, some information may remain stored locally until the next automatic cleanup or the manual deletion of site data.
Deleting local storage through the browser settings may interrupt ongoing operations, remove temporary selections or prevent the restoration of activities that have not yet been completed.
Server logs, IP addresses and security are not cookies
Even when optional cookies are disabled, the server receives technical data that are essential for communication and security.
The server may record the IP address, date and time, requested URL, user agent, referrer, errors, upload or download events and anti-abuse signals. These data are not read from the device through cookies, but derive from normal HTTP communication or security checks.
Refusing cookies does not prevent strictly necessary logs, request limits, anti-bot checks, lock management, integrity verification or incident recording.
For complete information on the purposes, legal bases and retention of logs, please refer to the Privacy Policy.
Duration, renewal and deletion of tools
The duration of the tools depends on their purpose, the browser configuration and any settings of external providers.
Technical session tools are normally retained only for the time needed to complete browsing or the requested operation. Some browsers may nevertheless restore previously opened sessions and tabs, temporarily extending the availability of the related local data.
The preferences expressed by the user and the technical records relating to acceptance of notices may be retained for an indicative maximum period of approximately twelve months, unless deleted earlier, the choice is changed or consent needs to be requested again.
Any identifiers used for statistical measurement may be retained for a limited period and in any event no longer than necessary for the purposes stated in this Policy.
Tools set by external providers may have different durations, determined directly by those parties. The information shown in the browser settings represents the actual situation present on the user’s device.
The duration of a tool may be renewed when it is set or used again, within the limits permitted by law and the preferences expressed by the user.
The user may delete cookies and local storage early through the commands available on the site or through the browser settings. Deletion may result in the loss of saved preferences or the interruption of operations that have not yet been completed.
How to control cookies and local data from the browser
Every browser allows users to view, block or delete site data, with possible consequences for technical functions.
Browser settings make it possible to delete individual cookies, all data for the domain, IndexedDB stores and local storage. Command names vary between Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari and mobile browsers.
Blocking all cookies may make sessions, forms and download procedures unstable. It is preferable to block non-essential tools while retaining technical ones.
Private or anti-tracking modes may delete data on closing, restrict third-party cookies or alter the behaviour of external services.
Withdrawal or modification of consent
The user may change their choice concerning optional tools at any time.
The commands available on the site allow optional tools to be enabled or disabled and the preference previously expressed to be updated.
In the event of withdrawal, MegaFile stops the subsequent use of optional tools and, where technically possible, removes the related first-party cookies from the device.
Withdrawal does not automatically delete cookies set directly by third parties or technical information already recorded before the choice was changed. Those data are processed according to the purposes and retention periods stated in the Privacy Policy.
To delete additional cookies or local data, the user may use their browser settings.
Cookie Policy updates and contacts
The configuration of the site and its providers may change; the notice will be updated when tools, purposes or durations change.
The Cookie Policy may be updated to reflect technical, legal or organisational changes. The date shown in the heading identifies the latest published revision.
Because third-party cookies may change without direct changes to the MegaFile.it code, periodic scans of the site should be carried out without and with consent, across multiple browsers and devices.
For clarification or reports, the Controller may be contacted at info@megafile.it. For general information on the processing of personal data, please refer to the Privacy Policy.
Manage optional cookies
The choice is stored in the first-party cookiesEnabled cookie. Essential technical cookies remain active because they are necessary for the session, security and requested functions.
